Relying on Faith

Jake's cousin Matt left the MTC and flew out of Salt Lake City to Thailand yesterday. They will shortly have a wonderful reunion. Jake is excited for the transfer meeting which he will be attending and has plans to make it memorable. Wish we could all be there! Jake included some fun pictures from his visit to the 3D art museum with his email this week.

"This week was a really good week, especially with the language. The improvement in my language is awesome! Elder Sanguensak said that if I had to train a foreigner, I could do it. That made me feel really good. I still need to improve, but I feel a lot better about it now. I've been able to call people and understand what they are saying to me, which is a hard thing to do over the phone. I called Uncle Tone and had a good conversation with him. We understood each other and I was really happy. I even did this role play with the Zone Leaders, where I was the investigator. They were the teachers and I understood everything that they said! It was way cool to see the Lord working in me this week."

"The work has been really hard. There are a lot of little things that seem to get in the way. It started out cool though. We taught a new investigator about the First Vision and the spirit was so strong. Elder Sanguensak bore his testimony of God and of his love and the investigator started to cry. It was an amazing lesson. The next day she called us and told us that her grandmother had passed away and we shared with her the Plan of Salvation. She really appreciated that. However, for the past couple days, we haven't been able to get a hold of her for some reason. She and a couple of our other investigators have not been answering their phones. It is super frustrating. We also have one investigator that was progressing so well and then she called us to say she can no longer learn from us because her mom said that if she did, she wouldn't let her take dance aerobic. She really likes to do that. The parents just won't open their hearts. We haven't heard from her in a while."

"We've had some good moments too. I taught English which was super fun. Once again everyone said that I can teach really well. At the end, I gave a spiritual thought on inspiration and tied it into relying on the Lord for help when things get hard. I testified of the Savior. The sister missionaries told me that I spoke Thai better than I have ever spoken it. They said it was like listening to President Holland speak. haha  We also had Book of Mormon class for the first time and had a lot of RCs show up. Once again, I was complimented on my reading in Thai. I bore my testimony on the Book of Mormon and it was really powerful. I don't know why, all of a sudden, my language has improved so much and I want you all to know that it is not me, but it is the Lord. I know that I am nothing without him and, like Ammon, I do not boast in myself."

"I was able to talk to Uncle Tone and invite him to church again and he said that he couldn't come. I really want Uncle Jeff to share his testimony with him and Grandma to invite him to come to church. It would help out so much with him. Uncle Tone did say that he would come when he has the time and isn't working. I am going to keep inviting him and maybe I'll have the time to sit with him and talk about the gospel. It's really hard because he lives so far away. Maybe I can teach him over the phone about the Restoration or the Plan of Salvation, or just share my testimony. I'm still not quite sure what to share, but I know I will. We will not lose faith. I was listening to some talks from the Apostles and I learned that I must rely on my faith and keep fanning it. I need to keep working on my faith and rely on the Lord to do what is needed of me."

"I love you all and I've been trying to take more pictures of the fun things we do. A lot of the time on p-days, we just sleep. haha  Talk to you next week and maybe I'll be companions with Matt! haha"
